There are significant advantages in having an English language patent specification prepared in the first instance.  At the foreign-filing stage, a Chinese language specification prepared in the mainland upon translation into English will rarely afford the client an appropriate level of protection.  Moreover, the usual "comprehensive parts list" prepared by a mainland patent draftsman is inappropriate for Claim 1 of a patent in any country!  A Registered Design would in many cases provide broader protection.  A complete re-draft by a foreign-trained Patent Attorney is usually required - duplicating costs for the client unnecessarily.  A specification properly drafted in English will provide your client a solid base for foreign Convention filings and an overall cost advantage.  Also, translation into Chinese from an English specification is relatively straightforward and will almost invariably result in claims of broader scope should the client choose to file in China during the Convention period.
